Keel 1-10 Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-12

Glenbeigh/Glencar were away to Keel on Sunday morning in the O Sullivan Cup semi-final sponsored by Ashes Bar Glenbeigh. This was the senior teams first competitive game since early August, as Glenbeigh/Glencar play in Div 2 we were restricted to 6 first 15 players. This gave the opportunity for some of our fringe players to show what they are capable of. Keel ply their trade in Div3 so that allowed them to play their first 15 which added to the competiveness of the game.

It was Glenbeigh/Glencar who opened the scoring through their centre forward Tommy Cahill with a point from play. Keel replied quickly with an excellent point from Thomas Ladden after an excellent run from the midfielder and a free from Tommy Buckley. Glenbeigh/Glencar gained possession and moved the ball quickly and safely into the hands of Jason McKenna who made no mistake and buried it in the back of the Keel net which left the score Keel – 0-02, Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-01 after ten minutes. Keel responded with a point from Eoin O Neill and Glenbeigh/Glencar replied promptly with a point from Adrian O Connor. Keel began to win the ball around the middle through Aaron Murphy and Thomas Ladden which allowed Keel to get valuable scores on the board. These scores came from Cian Flynn (0-01) and Tommy Buckley (0-02F). However, Glenbeigh/Glencar got two more scores on the board through Daniel Griffin and Jason McKenna. Keel closed out the half dominating the possession. They worked the ball excellently through the Glenbeigh/Glencar defence and with an overhead pass to Tommy Buckley he punched the ball into the back of the net. Dylan Prendergast put the final score of the half on the board with a point from play.

The half time score was Keel – 1-07, Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-04.

Dylan Prendergast was first to put his name on the scoresheet after the break with a point from play. Glenbeigh/Glencar replied with two points, one from Jason Mckenna and one from centre back Shane Riordan who had secured valuable possession and scores for the visitors in the second half. Tommy Buckley added to his tally by slotting a free between the posts after fourteen minutes which left the score Keel 1-09, Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-06. Glenbeigh/Glencar closed the three-point gap within five minutes with points from Colin McGuillcuddy, Tommy Cahill and Shane Riordan to level the game with ten minutes to go. Wing back Liam Clifford put one over after Glenbeigh/Glencar’s dominate spell to keep his side up on the scoreboard however, it was Glenbeigh/Glencar who closed out the game and kept Keel scoreless after this score. They found scores through Daniel Griffin (0-01’45), Tommy Cahill (0-01), Adrian O Connor.

In the end Glenbeigh/Glencar just shaded it with a 2 point victory.

Overall Glenbeigh/Glencar will be happy with the result and in particular the performances of our younger players, Sean Tadgh, Liam Roche & Tommy Quirke who all looked very comfortable with the step up to senior football. The pick of the rest were Adrain O’Connor and Jason McKenna.

Next up for this team will be the OSullivan cup final against Milltown/Castlemaine due to be played next Bank holiday Monday, time and venue TBC.
