Glenbeigh/Glencar 2-7 Renard 1-8

Glenbeigh/Glencar went into this game as underdogs, Renard had beaten them twice already this year and after completely blitzing Glenbeigh/Glencar by 1-6 to 0-1 in the first half it looked like a third defeat was heading Glenbeigh/Glencar’s way. An unbelievable second half performance from the whole Glenbeigh/Glencar team saw a complete reversal, Glenbeigh/Glencar moved the ball at speed into the forwards and this resulted in a fantastic comeback with Glenbeigh/Glencar winning the cup on a score line off 2-7 to 1-8. There were many stars for Glenbeigh/Glencar on the night but it was the whole team’s contribution throughout the year that resulted in this famous victory.

Milltown Castlemaine 1-7 Glenbeigh Glencar 0-8

Our U14 team travelled to Milltown to play the locals in the semi-final of the county league, Milltown were fast out of the blocks scoring two points in as many minutes. Playing against a stiff breeze Glenbeigh Glencar started to find their rhythm putting together some great moves, however 7 very scorable wides were to cost them dearly. Even though Glenbeigh Glencar were playing the better football they went in trailing at half time by 5pts to 3pts. Tommy Quirke, Christopher Scannell and Sean Quirke on the score sheet for Glenbeigh Glencar with a point each.

Once again it was Milltown that started the half well scoring two quick points leaving the score at 7pts to 3pts, once again Glenbeigh Glencar started to dominate the game with great scores from Rian O’Donovan and Liam Roche reducing the deficit. A mistake in the middle of the field was to cost Glenbeigh Glencar dearly as Milltown moved the ball into the danger zone resulting in a goal for Milltown, with 15mins remaining Milltown now had a commanding 1-7 to 5pts lead. Great credit must go to this Glenbeigh Glencar team as they never gave up and great points from Liam Roche & Rian O’Donovan reduced the deficit to 3pts. Glenbeigh Glencar were on top in every sector of the field and attacked time and time again but 4 goal chances went astray, then against the run of play Milltown scored another point. Once more the Glenbeigh Glencar lads pushed forward looking for that allusive goal which unfortunately didn’t come. Milltown won the game on the final score line of 1-7 to 0-8, Glenbeigh Glencar played some fantastic football and can be very proud of their performance, at the end of the day we kicked far too many wides that cost us dearly.

Our U14 team made the long journey to Sneem where they took on three amalgamated teams Templenoe/Sneem/Derrynane, after a slow start the team produced some lovely football and led by 5pts at half time. A much better start to the second half saw the lads take command of the game, with a lead of 12 pts going into the last 10mins Glenbeigh/Glencar lost total concentration and conceded 3 goals. U14 County League

Milltown/Castlemaine 1-11  Glenbeigh/Glencar 2-5

Our U14 team were narrowly beaten in their opening game in this year’s U14 county league, the game was played in very poor conditions which benefited the more physical home side. Glenbeigh/Glencar were aided by a very strong breeze in the first half however we only managed to notch up 3pts in this half, 2pts from Rian O’Donovan and one from Sean Page. An uphill battle was made that more difficult when Milltown/Castlemaine scored 1-5 in the opening 15mins of the second half, all credit to our lads they dug in and with goals from Darren O’Shea & Michael John Sheahan they reduced the deficit. In the final 10mins of the game Glenbeigh/Glencar were dominant but failed to narrow the gap losing out by 3 pts.
